My Why

I didn’t become a nurse because of a calling, such as having an epiphany while caring for a sick relative or surviving a childhood illness. My path into healthcare was messy, human, and shaped more by circumstance than inspiration.

It began with witnessing what happens when caregivers are not cared for. My French grandmother, who worked for decades as a nursing assistant, gave so much of herself to the healthcare system, only to be treated poorly when she needed support herself. After being injured at work, she was harassed by Worker’s Comp, became afraid to leave her home, developed dementia, and eventually died in a memory care facility. Her experience left a lasting imprint on me.

Nursing was not something I always knew I would do. It was a decision I made at 27 while working as a surgical technologist in San Francisco, searching for contentment and feeling the pressure of approaching 30 without a clear sense of direction. Nursing school felt like the only option that might lead somewhere meaningful. I graduated three months before my thirtieth birthday with one clear conviction: nurses are profoundly under-supported, and someone needs to care for the people who care for the patients.

That belief led me into management just over a year into my nursing career. The years that followed were not easy. I moved through roles that challenged me, drained me, frustrated me, and, at times, left me questioning my own worth. I reached breaking points. I left jobs. I started over. More than once.

But over time, I began to see that every difficult chapter was preparing me for the work I do now as a coach for nurses. The challenges, the breaking points, the moments of starting over; they were all shaping my understanding of what nurses truly need: space to be heard, supported, and reconnected with themselves. Whyldflower Coaching exists because I believe nurses deserve more than survival.

My why is simple: to help nurses care for themselves with the same compassion, clarity, and intention they so innately give to others.
